Stochastic resonance therapy (SRT) is a physical therapy method in which randomly distributed, unpredictable mechanical stimuli are transferred to the body via two independently controlled platforms. Because the pattern changes constantly, the nervous system cannot habituate and responds with involuntary balancing movements that address posture, coordination and neuromuscular control. The method was developed in Germany; srt zeptoring® is the device system built for it, manufactured by Zeptoring Deutschland GmbH in Berlin.
How the method works
Two separately driven platforms oscillate multidimensionally with varying amplitude and direction. The stimulus sequence is stochastically randomised and therefore cannot be anticipated. The body answers every deviation reflexively — without voluntary effort and in series of just a few minutes.
Difference from a conventional vibration plate
Conventional devices work periodically and uniformly: one pattern the nervous system anticipates within seconds. Stochastic resonance deliberately breaks that regularity. The stimulus therefore stays answerable involuntarily, and the application requires no high external loads.

Where does the term “stochastic resonance” come from?
The term comes from physics and describes how a weak signal becomes easier to detect when noise is added. Transferred to therapy this means: random mechanical stimuli can support the processing of sensorimotor information.
How does a session work and how long does it take?
Sessions take place standing or seated in short series of about one minute with pauses in between; a unit usually takes under ten minutes. Programme, intensity and frequency are selected by trained staff after medical consultation.
